Subcontract, 1711 March 20.

Working copy of a subcontract between Francois Dauphin de la Forest (1649-1714) and two unnamed voyageurs. As commander of French troops at the Straight of Ponchartrain (now the city of Detroit), La Forest held exclusive rights to trade with Native Americans there. Here he agrees to share some of the work, allowing other voyageurs a portion of the trade in return for a portion of the profits. After 34 lines, the text breaks off. It is not clear if this is an unfinished draft, or a fragment of a master copy. In either case, the spaces left for the names of the voyageurs are not filled in. Written by Antoine Adhemar (1739-1714), Royal Notary.
